Frequently asked questions
Everything you want to know before you start — from pricing to security to CSV import.
Account & usage
Planafolio brings portfolio tracking across every broker and retirement planning together in one place. You see your portfolio value, your returns, and your real metrics — instead of searching across multiple broker apps.
No. You can enter holdings manually, import them via CSV, or upload your bank's PDF statement directly — a wizard guides you through the import.
Yes. On the free plan you manage one portfolio; with Planafolio Pro, up to 10 — for example split by broker, strategy, or family member.
Not as a separate app, but Planafolio works just as well as a web app in your mobile browser — no installation needed.
Yes. The dividends view aggregates your payouts across all portfolios: total dividends received, your income over the last 12 months, your average monthly income, and your personal dividend yield — plus a calendar, a yearly overview, and a breakdown by security.
With Planafolio Pro you see estimated upcoming payouts for your holdings, derived from their past payment history. It's an estimate based on past payments — not a guarantee that a company keeps paying, or pays the same amount.
Pricing & subscription
The core is free forever: one portfolio with unlimited positions, import via CSV, PDF and automatic broker sync, the full value history, XIRR, dividend calendar, and the retirement needs analysis. Planafolio Pro unlocks up to 10 portfolios, TTWROR, benchmark comparison, X-ray allocation, risk metrics, and the Monte Carlo retirement simulation. See pricing.
No. Planafolio Pro is cancellable monthly, with no minimum term.
Yes, directly in your account settings. After cancelling, Pro stays active until the end of the already-paid period, then your account automatically returns to the free plan.
Your data stays fully intact — you're simply moved back to the free plan. You can delete your account separately at any time in account settings.
Security & privacy
Credentials and holdings are stored encrypted, and servers and backups run on German infrastructure. See our security page and our privacy policy.
No. Planafolio doesn't sell financial products and doesn't share your data with third parties for that purpose.
No. Your portfolio and wealth data is never used to train AI or machine learning models.
Import & brokers
CSV import automatically recognizes statements from common brokers, and for several German banks (including DKB, ING, Consorsbank, flatex, onvista, Deutsche Bank, Postbank, Smartbroker+) you can upload the PDF bank statement directly. Holdings can also be entered manually at any time — for brokers without automatic recognition.
Yes, with Planafolio Pro: Kraken, Binance, Bitvavo, Bitpanda, Coinbase, Bybit, OKX, KuCoin, Bitstamp, Trading212 and Interactive Brokers can be connected via API key under "Import" and are synced automatically every hour — you can also trigger a sync manually at any time. For any other broker, the free CSV import remains the reliable alternative.
The import skips unrecognized rows instead of importing faulty data, and lists them for you after the import so you can review or add them manually.
Yes, anytime as a full JSON export directly in account settings — no support request needed.
CSV export of your movements is part of Planafolio Pro — handy for your own tax filing or bookkeeping. CSV import from broker statements is unaffected and stays fully available on the free plan.
Calculators & tools
Eight public financial calculators: savings plan, compound interest, financial freedom, withdrawal plan, Altersvorsorgedepot (German retirement account), rebalancing, Frühstart-Rente, and the model portfolio comparison. See all calculators.
No. All eight calculators are completely free and work without signing up. You only need an account once you want to track your real portfolio or use the full retirement planning suite.
A freely accessible German-language financial glossary: metrics like XIRR and TTWROR, strategies, ETF and tax terms — explained plainly and, where it fits, linked directly to the matching calculator. Open the glossary.
Yes, completely free and without a Planafolio account. Every calculator has a copy-paste snippet consisting of an iframe, a resize script, and an attribution link — the height adjusts automatically. Go to the embed page.
The code snippet includes a visible text link below the calculator — it's part of the widget and the trade-off for embedding being free. Colors and language are currently fixed (German); you control the width via the surrounding element.
No. The model portfolios are static model calculations with fixed, transparently disclosed return assumptions per asset class — not real, live-tracked portfolios, not historical backtest data, not investment advice, and no guarantee of future returns.
Every comparison page carries a visible as-of date. Third-party prices and features can change at any time — the information comes without guarantee and I update it periodically, not in real time.
Retirement planning
The Retirement Check simulates your capital development into old age, including purchasing-power adjustment — based on your real portfolio, your savings rate, and realistic return assumptions.
Retirement age is when you stop working — pension start age is when statutory pension, occupational pension, or insurance annuities actually start paying out. For early retirees these often differ by several years; the Overview shows exactly that gap and what your capital needs to cover in the meantime.
Yes. Capital withdrawals in retirement account for capital gains tax on realized gains. With Planafolio Pro, a German tax engine additionally projects your gross salary through to retirement — including progressive income tax, tax class, church tax by state, solidarity surcharge, and social insurance contributions (statutory health, pension, long-term care, and unemployment insurance).
Free: the needs analysis based on a desired net income, the basic-assumptions form, and up to 2 external assets. Pro adds the gross-salary tax calculator with Overview and retirement need, a breakdown of your income sources, unlimited assets with scenario comparison, and the Monte Carlo simulation.
No. The projection is an orientation aid based on assumptions and simplified tax models, and doesn't replace individual financial or tax advice.
No. Planafolio is a tracking and planning tool, not a financial product provider — you open an Altersvorsorgedepot from 2027 with banks, brokers, or insurers. My free calculator and the reform info page help you assess and plan.
The public calculator uses fixed assumptions for life expectancy, taxes, and inflation, and needs no account. The full retirement planning inside Planafolio additionally includes real estate, insurance policies, and other assets, and lets you set individual tax rates, compare scenarios, and run a Monte Carlo simulation.
The Frühstart-Rente is a German state program starting 2027: 10 € per month per child from age six, automatically converting into a regular Altersvorsorgedepot at 18. The free Frühstart-Rente calculator shows what that — optionally topped up by parents — can grow into by retirement.
